Festival organisers today confirm more details regarding On Site Entertainment and Green Policies for this year’s DOWNLOAD FESTIVAL AT DONINGTON PARK, taking place 12-14 JUNE.
The Campsite Entertainment for Download 2009 has just been revved up with the news that an indoor cinema screen will be hosting two of the hottest rock films ever made! Download is proud to announce that a pre DVD release screening of ANVIL! THE STORY OF ANVIL will be shown over the weekend plus a showing of the all time classic ‘rockumentary’ THIS IS SPINAL TAP.
ANVIL! THE STORY OF ANVIL is an immensely entertaining one-of-a-kind documentary, directed by Sacha Gervasi (Writer – The Terminal), a former roadie with the band back in the heady days of the 1980’s. Re-visiting lifelong friends Lips and Robb, Sacha joins them 30 years later as Anvil attempt to make it big one last time. The DVD and Blu-Ray is released on the 15th June 2009, from indi VISION, a label within Universal Pictures (UK).
THIS IS SPINAL TAP is considered the ultimate in ‘rockumentaries’. The band are about to embark on their biggest world tour to date. Along for the ride is film-maker and fan Marti Di Bergi (Rob Reiner), there to make a behind-the-scenes tribute to his favourite heavy metal band. However instead of a celebrating the genius of the musicians behind such classics as “Big Bottom” and “Hell Hole”, the documentary captures the cracks as they begin to appear for this band whose time has come… and now appears to have gone again. The 25th Anniversary edition of the film will be released on DVD and Blu-ray on 7 September (www.optimumreleasing.com).
In other news, organisers have released information regarding their GREEN INITIATIVES AND ENVIRONMENTAL POLICIES for this year’s event, having last year been awarded the Greener Festival award by agreenerfestival.com.
Maintaining a commitment to OFFSET ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS of travelling to and from the festival, ticket buyers have the opportunity to add 50p to their order, with funds being invested in local environmental projects in schools – this year an orchard and conservation area will be developed at the Castle Donington Community College. THE CUP DEPOSIT SCHEME will continue to run this year, with 20p charged on each cup and £1 returned for 5 cups, these are then recycled, with the ‘BEER CANS FOR RECYCLING’ program continuing, festival goers will get a free can of beer for every bag of cans, cardboard and plastic returned to the Campsite Hubs. Any unwanted tents and camping equipment at the end of the weekend can be handed to the Campsite Hubs to then go to local scout groups and other charities. Anyone bringing back a recycling bag or donating a tent will be entered into a draw to win VIP tickets for Download 2010!
All waste cooking oil from site will be collected and converted into sustainable biodiesel.
RECYCLING SYSTEMS will be in place to segregate all cardboard, plastic, paper and cans from back of house and the waste from the audience will be sent through a sorting process to extract recyclable elements. All vendors will be using biodegradable packaging and wooden utensils across the site to avoid plastic packaging especially polystyrene. Various LOCAL AND NATIONAL CHARITIES, including Global Cool, Cancer Research and Terrance Higgins Trust, will be onsite providing small-scale entertainment and interaction that will promote audience action on environmental and social issues.
SHUTTLE BUSES will run from Derby and East Midlands Parkway stations regularly from 10 June until 15 June, with a shuttle bus running from the airport at well.
BIG GREEN COACH and HAPPY BUS will be running between Download and towns and cities across the UK, running over 60 coaches to and from the site
Festival goers are encouraged to share lifts either with friends or through www.liftshare.com, and all cars arriving on site before 2pm on Fri day 12 June with 4 or more people in will be entered into a draw to win instant VIP upgrade tickets for the whole car - bonus!
GUITAR HERO is back for Download 20009! Guitar Hero World Tour players can brag that they have played to the same crowds as Faith No More, Slipknot and Deff Leppard, as Activision once again brings the hardest-rocking videogame to the hardest-rocking festival.
The Guitar Hero World Tour session - running in The Bell Tent nightly, will offer fans the opportunity to perform on-stage in front of up to 1,000 fans, and genuinely experience what it’s like to be a rock star. Last year saw some incredible performances, complete with actual moshing, and a storm of water bottles. This year, with the introduction of the full band set-up, it’s hoped that acts will take things to a whole new level. Individuals, double acts or full bands can perform on stage, drawing from a selection of songs from Guitar Hero World Tour and Guitar Hero Metallica. Limited spaces will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.
