THE STRANGERS: A big surprise at the box office was the Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman horror film "THE STRANGERS". Purchased by Rogue Pictures a while ago, the $9 million-budgeted home invasion horror thriller was destined for direct-to-DVD status. Earlier this year Rogue finally decided to give it a shot as a piece of theatrical counter-programming in the hope it would open with a few million despite generally negative reviews. In its opening weekend the film has managed to earn its budget back more than twice over with a whopping $20.7 million haul and a solid $8,393 per screen average.

It’s official -- the reason why The Strangers was held up was the fact that it royally stinks. Reviews have filtered through to the Gorezone HQ and they are far from glowing. Well, delayed movies are normally stinkers -- anyone remember the April Fools Day remake?
Aja has slammed the new Piranha 3D remake he will be directing. “I think I picked the worst project for me,” says the director.

Piranha is about to start shooting and will be released theatrically by Dimension next July. “You cannot do worse than water, underwater kids, spring break, shooting during summer, alot of CGI and alot of prosthetics. I have the worst elements for a movie. It’s going to be a huge challenge; we’re going to sweat lots, work our asses off.” P3D is being written by Josh Stolberg who has just embarked on writing the script for the remake of The House on Sorority Row that’s set to follow in the same footsteps as Prom Night, Yes, the dreaded PG13 our source has informed us.

The B-Movie genius (NOT) Uwe Boll is prepping his next two films. The first is called Stoic and stars Edward Furlong, Shaun Sipos, and Sam Levinson. Stoic is the re-telling of the true story of three German convicts doing time for non-violent offences who raped and tortured a cellmate for 10 hours before helping him hang himself to cover their crime. Boll promises that Stoic, which is in post production now will be very graphic and likely to be released unrated.
